On April 28th– April 30th and in the weeks and months leading up to it, ORE was very involved in the First Annual Arkansas Solid Waste Conference at The Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa in Hot Springs, AR. The Conference was hosted by the Arkansas Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and the Solid Waste Alliance of Arkansas.
The conference kicked off on Tuesday with a golf tournament and a guided tour of the American Composting facility at Little Rock.
The event, themed “Driving Solid Waste Resource Management in the Diamond State” drew participants from across the state of Arkansas to discuss the most pressing matters in solid waste, including hazardous material in the waste stream, leachate management, air and water quality, safety, remediation of the NABORS Landfill, and all the latest updates at the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
The keynote address featured new ADEQ Director Becky Keogh, who expressed her desire to work closely with the Solid Waste Districts and private enterprises to resolve issues in solid waste, and this spirit of cooperation carried throughout the conference.
Industry leaders enjoyed networking sessions, breakout sessions, and tabletop sessions, spurring productive cooperation and a community spirit within the industry.
Sessions on recycling and waste-to-energy were of special interest to ORE, our customers and friends and brought new insights to all who attended those sessions.
We encourage all those interested to become involved in the Solid Waste Alliance of Arkansas to ensure a bright future for the industry in our state. For more information, please visit, www.swaar.org.
